ugh. it feels dreary-er after having sunshine and decent temps this weekend.. and i'm just not feeling great. sigh.
and i've gotten a couple awesome gifties from friends lately - a chilly willy mug from doris:
and this awesome matboard from becky :
and i've managed to get a couple pages done lately:
american crafts PP (pink & aqua), brad & plastic flower, heidi grace PP (stripes, red, green) & stickers, hero arts stamp, pink paislee letter stickers (thanks kelly ;), fiskars circle & border punch.
heidi grace PP (yellow, orange), rubons and bookplate, basic grey PP (blue), american crafts felt flowers & brads, making memories chip letters, fiskars circle & border punches.
i think scallops are my new torn edge - LOL.
it is currently -6. with a windchill of -23.
they cancelled school last night. i'm watching my neighbor's boys this morning because she has a meeting she can't get out of. there will be 5 crazy boys in my house. wish me sanity.
i'm hoping to cozy up with some scrappies tonight. my to do list is getting out of hand. and my man in brown dropped off a happy little box from hero arts on monday. i had to use one of the stamps as a prop for a pic of sammy. heeeeee! =)
(so proud of myself for finally figuring out how to change the color of these scalloped frames from heather ann designs. and it only took me a couple weeks - LOL!)
okay.... e&m have arrived, and quiet has left the building.. hoping to get some cleaning done while sammy is happy and the big boys are having fun. =) STAY WARM!
lightroom and i are having a bit of a tiff this morning, so this is the only picture i have. i wanted to show you how my new sewing machine could probably eat the old one for lunch since it's so much bigger, but alas... that will have to wait till another day.
i made this quilt from a kit from kelly mccaleb''s etsy shop. i *did* sub in some orange star squares to personalize it a bit. =) i learn by doing, so this was a perfect way to figure out all of the steps and oddities of quilting. and this poor little quilt definitely has some learning curve issues - lol!
this book is awesome. all sorts of fun patterns, and a section at the front that covers the basics. totally inspired me to just start trying and see what happens. the scalloped blanket that i made for sam when i was pregnant came from this book.
the new machine. worth every penny. and, um, i paid $185 w/ free shipping for it, and i'm glad i didn't wait any longer because apparently the price has gone up!!! it's just so much easier to use than my old cheap machine. and it has so much more power. love it. i haven't even tried most of the functions, but i can't wait to use it more.
purl soho - my favorite online fabric store. so yum. i've also ordered from equilter.com, but it's a bit harder to navigate and turn up the good stuff. i really wish there was a great fabric store here, but there isn't. =P thinking i might need to get my hands on some of this fabric. i came across another really cool and boyish leaning line the other day, but now i can't remember where. hmmmm.
also - check out the craft blogs linked over to the left. lots of yummy fabric pretties - so inspiring.
my next big projects is to make a quilt from this book for sam - a dark brown background w/ lots of brights to match his bedding. but right now i have a little project going for the just arrived little man evansen... and by "going" i mean i just washed the fabric and have a great idea that i'm hoping will work out. ;)
this book is a fabulous inspiration as well.. i've got a few of the projects on my "wanna do" list.
there has really been no method to my "i want to learn to sew" madness.... i've just picked fabric and patterns and gone for it. so far i've been lucky and everything has turned out looking basically like what it should... i'm sure that streak will end sooner or later. ;) every project teaches me something new, and i love having the freedom to just play and see what works for me.
...and wish you would, too. gabby & mike will be welcoming babyfek into the world today.... sending lots and lots of happy calm thoughts her way... i just about cried when i woke up this morning to an email that her water had broken. she's been waiting for her little one for a long time and i am just overjoyed that today is the day!!
i was doing so well w/ blogging last week and then... not so much.
first of all..
EEPS. i imagine it won't be long till he figures out what to do next.
matthew did good for valentine's day. in addition to a sweet card and some beautiful flowers, i got an ipod dock for my scraproom and a cool necklace from etsy :
the valentines i made for the boys. poppy ink robot stamp, fiskars heart punch, heidi grace PP and heart / with love stamps. red robot for alex, blue for ben, orange for sam. =) i used a sharpie to make the scallops around the edge.
and speaking of scallops..... go peek at this month's IT kit. yeah. that's the scalloped border punch from fiskars. the one that's not even shipping to stores for a while. the one that makes a perfect scalloped edge w/ a little hole in each scallop. it's a whole lot of happy. =) i hear this kit is selling fast, better go check it out. =)
i *finally* finished the quilt.. hoping to get some pics of that later and start rambling about sewing. and i got back into the scraproom this morning after 2 weeks of lazies and made a couple cards this morning... hoping i can keep it up. but for the rest of today.. i need to do some major cleaning. =P
which reminds me (yes, i'm all over the place today. it's kinda typical. ;) - we figured out an allowance solution. we're making a list of chores above and beyond their usual ones and they have to pick 3 to do to earn their allowance. they're totally into it for now, but i'm guessing that won't keep up. ;)
this is what sam looks like after lunch. which is really neither here nor there, but you can see how red the underside of his chubby little chin looks. the constant drool makes his eczema *way* worse there. so we're supposed to start keeping vaseline on it to seal it off from the dampness. AND he has a bit of a yeast infection in the crease of his leg, AND he needs his normal diaper cream, AND he has a little raw spot on his boy bits that needs neosporin, AND he needs the usual all over really thick lotion on this rest of his eczema-y self.
high maintenence, i tell ya.
he's also not too fond of the shots he got yesterday. we've got the clingy / cranky thing going on. good times.
this is ben before school on monday - with his family valentine to display at school. he looks WAY older than almost 5 in this picture. and this mama thinks that is NOT ALLOWED. he's way excited about taking his valentine's to school. dang. i just realized that i should have gotten a picture while he was writing his name on all of them. boo. i was busy holding the aforemention cranky / clingy / just got shots baby while he was doing it.
here's alex and his fake-y smile with his webkinz. the boys each got one a couple weeks ago (alex got a gray cat, ben got a turtle) and are addicted. they love sending each other mail and visiting each other's houses. my grandma came down to watch them yesterday while i took sam to his checkup, and they spent most of the time showing her everything. and now they're convinced that she needs one. LOL!
i've got to get everyone dressed, feed ben breakfast, pack a diaper bag and get ben to school w/ his valentines and the rest of us to bagels with the girls. better get moving. =)
another day, another entry. i may be getting back into the swing of this whole blogging thing.
thank you all for the typewriter font suggestions. i ended up getting this one - 1942 report. but i may have to get a couple more. i think typewriter fonts fall into the catagory of something you can't have too many of.
and thank you all for the chore ideas. well, except for maybe my dear husband, who suggested picking stocks as a chore. not sure that sounds like a good investment plan. =) especially to deirdre, who is a fellow mama to (almost) three boys, and typed a lot of what i was thinking.
littlest man has his 6 month shots today. not really looking forward to that. and i'm thinking he's going to crawl much earlier than the other two. he is no longer content to just sit, and he keeps flinging himself in the direction of things that he wants to get his hands on. and then he screams bloody murder because he's on his stomach. he *will* stay put for a bit if you sit him in front of a bin of toys - well, at least long enough to empty it.
i'm hoping to finish up my quilt for sam today. and hoping to share it and my thoughts on how i'm learning to sew and on my new sewing machine tomorrow. =)
(ps : the photo above is in a frame from 2 peas by rhonna farrer.)
