i've followed ali's december daily albums each year - but this is the first time i'm going to be following along. i'll admit, i've wanted to take it on before, but there have always been things that held me back. this year, i've decided to find work arounds for all those concerns, and i'm excited to get going. here's some of the concessions i've made to make the concept work for ME.
instead of commited to doing this every day, i've made a list of the important things i want to be sure to capture. the boys' winter programs. decorating cookies. letters to santa. decorations around the house. holiday decorations. going out to look at lights. any holiday lists. celebrations with family. christmas train at grandma's. wrapping presents. and most of all, our christmas morning routine.
instead of going with holiday product, i'm using stuff that i love. i admit it - me + holiday themed goods are not BFFs. i've pulled a couple of studio calico kits, my favorite punches, and a few new goodies ordered from 2peas (their free shipping over $25 off expires tonight - and i totally took advantage of it!)
instead of worrying about perfect pics, i'm going to do a mix of instax, iphone pics and some regular photos mixed in. totally stole the instax photo from kp. and then immediately ordered more film.
instead of building a base, i'm going to make it up as i go along. i'm not a planner. i need to be able to do whatever each day. this won't add that much time to my daily process, but will save me up front stress. win win!
here's what i'll be using : (though i'm sure i'll grab other stuff as needed - this is the base set of supplies that i'm starting with.
album : i'm using an old melissa frances chipboard bingo album - totally stole the idea from davinie. thanks, friend, for having such a good idea. =) it's 5x7ish, so my pages will be a mix of sizes that are smaller than that.
tape : dear lizzy christmas mixtape, dear lizzy enchanted mixtape, ac city park mixtape, ms christmas paper tape. addicted to this stuff lately. i use a lot of patterned paper strips - these are similar, and don't require adhesive. =)
(cover supplies : pp & # stickers - metropolitan, tape - ms + ac city park, punch - ek bumpy road + fiskars circle punch, brads - pebbles, mist - mister huey's applejack + mister huey's classic white + maya road iridescent pearl)
my chip album got a layer of mister huey's apple jack, and then a layer of classic white. love the effect. for "merry", i handwrote the word on scrap cardstock, and then cut out around it. i layered that to my patterned paper and used it as a pattern to cut the final word. from there, i stitched it in place on a piece of 5x7 kraft cardstock.... and then decided to use the chip album instead. ;) i cut out the word and glued it to the new album cover. you can skip that step, LOL. i finished it off by spraying a layer of maya road iridescent pearl over the enter front - love the shimmer it adds. don't love how hard it makes it to photograph!!
(page supplies : pp - on the easel + metropolitan, mist - mister huey's lunch tray, ink - jbs seed packet, punches - ek success real estate sign + martha pinking + martha vintage doily + fiskars circle punch, stamps - notes from holiday lights + sc months, tape : dear lizzy enchanted mixtape + ac city park mixtape + ms glue pen)
i'm keeping the interior pages pretty simple, and very me. little strips and bits of pp. i opted for a sprinkle of punched dots to embellish the page - it keeps the bulk down. the ms glue pen is invaluable for gluing little bits like this! for the journaling spot on the second page, i masked off an area with the real estate punch and then misted the rest of the page with mister huey's lunch tray. i then stamped over the masked area. these are both 4x6 and will be glued back to back.
so that's my december daily. =) i'm excited to start adding more pages - i'll try to share at least once a week. if you have any questions about anything i've used or done here, please ask away!
