before i get into sharing week 51, i wanted to share a simple tutorial for your silhouette portrait or cameo. shapes + words. word bubbles & banners, more specifically, but you could do circles, tags, stars, tabs - whatever works for you. i might be a little bit obsessed with this concept. and it's so easy.
first, open your shape. i'm using a word bubble from the silhouette store. resize it by clicking on one of the corners and dragging it to the size you want - i chose to make mine to fit on one of the 3x4in journaling cards.
click on the text tool - it's the icon with the "A" over in the menu along the left. select your font and type your word.
if you're using a script font, once you've typed out the word you'll want to weld your letters together. right click on the word and select "weld" from the drop down menu.
rather than mess with changing the font size, i just resize my word once i've finished writing it. you'll also want to move it around until you like where it is inside your shape.
you can play with different fonts + mixing and matching sizes. when i'm doing a phrase, i find it's best to type each word separately so you can move & resize them independently. i threw a few banners into the mix as well.
and then just for fun you might want to fill an entire 12x12 page with word bubbles. i used a lot of generic words and phrases, things i can use again and again. i cut them from kraft and vanilla - it's easier to just have neutrals on hand than to cut once i've started working on the week. =) i think i'll dig through my paper stash and find some tone on tone papers to try it on as well.
and now.. week 51 // december 17-23 : winter break. christmas prep. missing ipods. playground trips and friends. when i was planning out this week, i did my best to simplify. it doesn't have to ALL go into the album.
lots of printables this week. with lots of recoloring so they all coordinate. love that. i used marcy's tip from this studio calico post about using the paint bucket. and not to be a total tease, but i'm playing with a couple of not quite released sets this week - a 4x6 set of cards from marcy penner and an awesome collection of 3x4 cards from erica hernandez that will go live at 2peas next tuesday.
i played a bit more with photo sizes this week. i usually default to 4x4s and 2x2s, but i mixed in some 3x3s, 3x4s, and a photo collage this week.loving the look. i'm experimenting with printing on 8.5x11 photo paper, and it makes it easier to switch up the sizes and maximize the paper. the gingerbread + YUM was actually pulled out of my december daily album - i was planning out the rest of my days and decided to simplify there a little as well.
and there's one of the word bubbles that i made. =) it fit perfectly with a little snippet stolen from matthew's facebook.
happy thursday!! sam and i are working to put away his new toys today.. the tree is STILL up (ugh, so not like me) because that stuff is all still under it. time to get a move on and reclaim my house!
