do you use them?? i know there are so many good sketch sites out there, but i'm bad about seeking them out. when i do use them, i have to admit that my page usually ends up looking nothing like the sketch. i get frustrated when i try to follow a sketch faithfully, so i use them more as a jumping off point.
we've started a new feature on the studio calico blog - sunday sketches. each week there will be a new sketch, based off a layout from the design team gallery. this is my take on the first sketch, which was posted last sunday. there's a new one up today. i used the whodunit kit - i had to get one more page out of it before i packed it up and made room to start working with the february kit.
a few details about the page -
the alphabet was stamped with the story time alphabet and numbers in black ink on the blue patterned paper and then cut out. i masked off the middle rectangle and the two places where i stamped with the journaling stamp, and then sprayed the rest with cherry ink. i went w/ a small pic since it was lousy quality and mounted it on foam squares so it had a little more presence on the bright red background. those making memories pins (from orchestra) are actually stuck into the foam tape. i drew an outline around my stitched border in the middle so it would mimic the journaling stamps. the stars were punched with a fiskars twinkle twinkle punch, and the buttons are from my stash.
if you need even more sketches, january is sketch month over at fiskarscrafts - there's a new project with a sketch each day. i contributed 2 layouts and a mini, but they aren't up yet - i'll link you up when they are. check it out, though - there will be pages, minis, cards, even sewing projects - all with sketches.
the temp was all of three ABOVE zero yesterday, so we took advantage of it and got out of the house. WOW. let me tell you, the boys needed it. matthew took them to the library since the bigs had both gone through their last stacks with all the at home time, and we ran some of the errands we'd been putting off. the high is supposed to be in the 20s today - that's practically tropical. ;)
i'm bonding with my sewing machine and fabric today - the handmade gift exchange is TOMORROW. and i've only got one totally finished, and bits of the other five in progress. i'm hoping it goes faster now that i've got one done and figured out exactly how to do it. i'll share them here on tuesday.
