roller rink

oh, roller rink. you've found your way into my top five. perfect neutrals. woodgrain. those enamel dots. ledger washi. asterisk stamps. oh, yes. and to make this month even better? roller rink and all four add-ons are still available. if i had to play favorites with the add-ons, i'd go for rainbow kneesocks. i have another project planned with that add-on, hopefully i can make that happen and share it soon!

here's a look at what i made this month. i also did a PL week with the card kit, but i'll share that in a seperate post. 

hummel day camp : the colors in roller rink made me think of my kids' day camp this summer. while i didn't have any pics from their days there, i did have one of the whole group + counselors at parents' night.

i built my page on a piece of the tim and beck patterned paper, using the divisions withing the design as a guide for where to place elements. the exclusive ledger washi tape was exactly the right height to fit in one of the "blocks" in the paper, and i love how it adds a perfect area for journaling. i've been asked a few times about the pen i used on the tape - i use a staedtler lumocolor for all of my journaling. love that this pen can handle surfaces like the tape and photos!

new : a new school year tends to bring so many other new things.. i wanted to get them all onto one page. i used a posed first day of school photo paired with instagrams taking on the first day and while school shopping to help round out the story.  

i'll be honest - i really want to switch out the background on this one for a simple ledger. LOVE the love paper, but it's a bit too busy for me! i'm glad i tried it - gotta shake things up now and then. =) i kept the design of the page fairly simple. i added a few layered tabs and labels alongside two of my photos, and used some layered diecut frames to house the title.

15 years : i pretty much loved this silhouette cut, and thought it was perfect for an anniversary page. =) i backed it with the ledger washi, then layered a button, banner and sequins over the flower. the photo of us together was taken on a trip to kansas city from this spring.

when we were working on kits this summer, i told april that i really wanted a "be awesome" stamp. so i was thrilled to get my hands on it and ink it up!!! it's a bit hard to see in the pics, but i misted with mister huey's shine and the starburst mask on the background. the little embellies are grouped along the lined of the burst. i used a lot of neutrals + the b&w photos, so i'm loving the energy that the little pops of color add!

happy saturday! we're off to start the weekend by helping clean up the grounds of our elementary school. then library, archery and watching a football game. pinterest has convinced me that i need to make cake batter milkshakes, so i'm hoping that will happen, too. ;)

sometimes...

...i really can't wait to kick sam and his toys out of my teeny tiny scraproom. but mostly, i love hearing him digging through legos behind me while i work. sam and i have both been busy in there this week. =)

happy thursday! it's reveal day at studio calico - i just posted a few more sneaks here. it's also friday for 2 out of 5 truesdells - the bigs are off school tomorrow. which should prove unpopular with the 3rd school going truesdell. ;)

i spent a lot of time roller skating as a kid. our school had skate party nights, and i certainly attended my fair share of birthday parties at skateland. i remember skates with orange wheels, the disco ball, doing the hokey pokey at the center of the rink and the funky bright lockers.

i totally love that roller rink captures that asthetic, in a fun and updated way. this kit has been a blast to use, and i plan to spend a little more time with it before i put it away. my number 1 item in the kits this month is the exclusive wide ledger washi - it's on all of my projects. i'm also in love with the enamel dots in the most perfect exclusive colors. (and good news - they are both available in the main kit, and there will be plenty to go around this month!!!) here's a peek at the two pages and PL week i've put together so far :

happy monday!! we had a lovely weekend of not doing too much at all - just what i needed to be able to face down this crazy week. i'm almost over my cold, the weather is perfect and i'm totally thrilled to be rolling into autumn (even if i AM in denial about how soon october will be here!)

i made this a couple weeks ago, on a sunny + hot day. so it just seems right that it should post today, when it's grey + wet and i pulled out a BIG warm cardigan for the school drop off routine. fall is definitely on its way. the title tag came from an anthro catalog and was the starting point for this page. totally digging the brown and orangey red paired with aqua, navy and a little green. and yes, i used the amy tangerine house paper. again. i might have a problem. and i may have picked up a second sheet, so i don't see an end in sight. ;)

happy monday!! unfortunately, fall also seems to have brought in a runny nose and a foggy head. i'm moving slow this morning. today's to dos have room for some lazy, so i think i'll make it through. =)

it's time for another 2012 : Captured class! in september, i'm talking about working with embellishments. i LOVE dimensional accents, but they aren't always great in the PL pockets. this month i'm sharing tips on getting big impact with small embellishments. i also put together a little slideshow of how i built the week from start to finish! i asked sasha to play along with the theme this month - you can check out her week here.

happy saturday!! speaking of project life, i just ordered the new 4x6 grid cards. i'm thinking of challenging myself to do a week using nothing but cards, stamps and washi. i don't know if i can keep it that simple, but i need to do SOMETHING to catch up! i'll keep you updated if it happens. =)

three - new studio calico yearbook

i love when CHA goodies start rolling in. =) most of studio calico's yearbook and classic calico v 3 have hit the shop, so we planned a little blog post to celebrate it. i was glad to have an excuse to break into the new lines!

i had been looking forward to scrapping this map photo, and yearbook was a perfect match. this layout is a tiny bit random - i basically arranged bits and pieces to make one horizontal block across the middle of the page. and we've already had a glimpse of this year's craziness on tuesday when we had to bolt from the elementary PTO meeting to the middle school open house! it's totally worth it, though, they are all thriving where they are.

happy thursday! it's a rainy dreary day here... fighting the urge to go curl up on the couch with a blanket. my to do list think it's a terrible idea, but i might have to find some time to do that with sam this afternoon. ;)
