something cool, something big + something stamp-y

something cool : 

our 4th grade classes have spent the last month preparing for a big presentation at school. they've been working with refugees from myanmar to find out more about the journey (and the reasons behind it) that brought them to omaha. this is a big project, and i'm impressed at the thoughtfulness that came from each of the kids.  today, they're leading presentations at different stations around the school, showing their fellow classmates what they learned via "a walk in their shoes" - very cool. ben's group talked about the dangers that the refugees face while traveling. 

something big : 

becky higgins' project life + studio calico. studio calico style, sized to fit into PL albums. how cool is that?? i have not done a stellard job keeping up with project life because of a crazy busy year, and this totally gives me the push i need to be all in and ready to take on 2013. you can read more about it on the SC blog and message board. 

something stampy : 

both the CHA-S release stamps and the new darling dear designs came in at studio calico. the pic above is a little sneak of a page using darling dear + wonderland, and the new "sam" and "oh snap" stamps. i'll be able to share it on thursday. =)

happy tuesday!! we are knee deep in finishing up costumes around here - we have some details to take care of before tomorrow night! i guess i'd better get to work - tomorrow is full of halloween parades and parties!

sock hop reveal

it's time for a SOCK HOP! =) this month has a fun mix of rich colors + brights, with just enough neutrals to pull it all together. here's what i made with this month's kits : 

you // i know. i scrapped this photo last month. i rarely re-scrap photos, and can't recall any time i've done it in such a short time span. but seriously - this quote and that photo were meant to be together. and the vintage boy badge was the perfect embellishment. and so, just like that, i reprinted this photo and got to work. ;)

the design here is fairly simple - just a layered photo mat with two layers of patterned paper and one of the super cool feather vellum. the heart banner and asterisk were both cut with my cameo, and i used the shape of the stamps as a template to cut the vellum strips from basic grey.

spin // this is my attempt at capturing dizzy on a page. ;) i wanted the photo and the circles to sort of pull you through in a circular motion, with the title as the axis. i took total advantage of the circular elements in the kits & shop items (brads, stamps, sequins, stamps, banners, enamel dots) and varied the sizes - i think it gives the page a lot of energy. this page using mostly the bobby socks add-on, with a few bits and pieces from other kits and the shop.

rock it // for our member scraplift challenge, i chose this page by megan klauer. i loved how she arranged all of the little bits and pieces.

for my page, i kept her strong horizontal line across the top of the page but switched from one horizontal 4x6 to two smaller vertical photos. i arranged tags and journaling cards above and below the photos and then went back and added embellishments. the "awesome" diecut is from the cut it out class exclusives - i cut it from vanilla cardstock and then sprayed it with mister huey's silver. i used a lot of the BG fact or fiction diecuts from the shop on this page - they were the perfect additions to finish off the design! the "be awesome", "you rock" and "crazy cool" stamps are from the card kit - this is a set i'm going to be using a TON on project life and pages.

a good day to get lost // i think the best way to describe this page is eclectic. i wanted to play with layers and mismatched elements and had a lot of fun making it. i kept most of them items to similar almost neutral tones (pale yellow and gray) and then punched it up with a bunch of navy, a bit of red, and some pinks and aquas. i made sure my focal photo didn't get lost by matting it with the exclusive vellum and making most of the elements around it go under it.

the "right here" and "love this" cuts are from the upcoming cut it out class - i cut them from vanilla cardstock and misted them with mister huey's silver. i punched some stars from the dear lizzy ticket and backed them with navy pp, and then added some embellishments over the top.

happy (almost) sunday - hope you're all having an awesome weekend!

basic grey warehouse sale + studio calico darling dear

this one's for all you lucky utah crafters - basic grey asked me to help spread the word that they are having a warehouse sale on nov 9th and 10th. this is an awesome opportunity to pick up some awesome christmas gifts for the crafty people in your life, or for yourself (i won't tell!). they'll not only have their scrapbook products, but their fabric and baby line as well.

and for the rest of you, no matter where you are - most of the darling dear release popped up at SC HQ earlier than expected and is up in the studio calico shop RIGHT NOW. which is a nice surprise, when the ship date was expected to be mid november! i got this line earlier this week and i can honestly say that this is my favorite SC release to date - it's even cooler in person. the yearbook ephemera packs also came in, and i think i need 6 more. it's like the perfect mix of embellies for me!

happy friday!!! our gorgeous fall days from last weekend have been replaced by gray and windy fall days - perfect for cudding in and getting things done. and okay, maybe just a little lazy. ;) hope you all have an awesome weekend!

sock hop sneaks

it's almost time for a SOCK HOP at studio calico! november's kits go up on the 27th - at noon EST for subscribers and at midnight EST for everyone. i did 4 pages with the kit - i'll be working on a PL week with them for a SC blog feature early next month. the first project here is main only and the rest use a mix of the kits.

happy thursday! after i took those shots of sam in his brand new picture day outfit yesterday, i knew i had to take advantage of the pretty leaves and perfect light to get a few of the bigs + all three together. i was scrolling through all of them in lightroom and loved them as a series... and the next thing you know, i was setting them to music. love these three together. =) i love that there are a few winners in this collection of photos - i never know what i'm going to get w/ these three!

sorry. now you have the old batman theme song in your head, too. ;) but i couldn't resist using it as part of the page! i wonder if sam would like those old episodes? probably not - he much prefers his super heros in lego form. ;) i downloaded the batman shape from the silhouette store and have been wanting to add it to a page - these photos were the perfect fit.

happy tuesday!! we decided to shake up our monday by spending the evening at an indoor waterpark. we had free passes that were expiring this week, and last night was the only time we could make it work. 

we did a rush job on dinner and homework and spent the evening having fun.the boys were totally in favor of this plan. ;)

the bonus of going on a monday night? almost no lines for the waterslides. which was awesome. plus, everyone was tired enough to go to bed without grumping about it afterwards. i am  loving the boys being at an age where we can do this kind of thing without throwing everyone totally off!

one october weekend

on friday, we test drove the herobrine costume at family fun night at school.

on saturday, we started the never ending process of raking leaves. and then some of us yelled at the tv a lot during the huskers v northwestern game.

on sunday, the weather was gorgeous and we went through a corn maze.

and climbed on hay bales. we got apple cider donuts, too - YUM.

and now it is monday. and gray. and it's back to to do lists and reality. and the reality is that this week's calendar is looking a little intense. here's to making it all happen!

divide and conquer + junkstock

my favorite part of teaching is seeing what it inspires people to do. the hours of thinking and planning and WORKING and worrrying and all of the not sleeping to get it wrapped up in time are totally worth it. i admit that i was a little anxious when my divide and conquer workshop went live at two peas. there is a LOT of theory in the class. a lot of teaching people to look at minis in an entirely different way. so seeing people take those concepts and run with them? it kind of rocks.

when i came across nicole reaves' finished album, i was blown away. nicole got married in hawaii 8 years ago - before she was a scrapbooker. she had photos, memorabilia, and some notes - and hadn't done anything with them. and now they are showcased in an amazing album. here are a few of her pages - you can see the rest on her blog! thanks, nicole, for letting me share this here!

my divide and conquer workshop is still available at 2peas... and i am currently working on a second workshop to expand the concepts and bring you even more inspiration. i'll have more details on that late next month. ;) 

i made two trips to junkstock this weekend - one alone, and one with matthew and the boys. it was a good venue to intoduce the boys to the joys of junk. =) there were a mix of booths in a farm on the edge of town, and it was spread out enough that we didn't have to worry about sam knocking things over. ;) i went hoping to find a coffee table and a piece for a corner in our bathroom, but left with mostly letters. i reeeeeeeeeeeeeally wanted the piece above for a coffee table, but let's be honest - it + three boys would = DISASTER.

happy thursday! lots happening around here today..  sam's preschool is hosting a spaghetti dinner for the kids + dads/special guests, and me and alex and ben have some minecraft costumes to try and put together before a halloween fun night at ben's school tomorrow night. wish us luck!

it's time for another 2012 : captured class at 2peas! this month is all about die cuts. i'm kind of addicted to die cuts - they are a great fit for my "bits and pieces" scrap style. i'm also sharing a couple of organization tips for keeping all your project life goodies under control.

happy tuesday!! i'm feeling like i could have used an extra weekend day. or at least that's my excuse for two straight  "finishing the morning routine in the car" starts. darker morning and cooler temps have us all moving a little slower.
