34th street

34th street is live at studio calico! and on top of that, three of the four add-ons are still available - including one of my personal faves, penn station. the open me stamp has been added to my gift wrap plans for this christmas - how cute will it be stamped on a big tag, or even right on to plain wrapping paper?? and speaking of tags..  studio calico is now stocking a big range of colors and sizes - i picked up a bunch for wrapping + pages.

wish i'd been able to do more with this kit, but with our trip to chicago, i just ran out of time. i'm going to add my leftover bits and pieces to my december daily stash.

oh good // 34th street : because, really, what makes a quiet afternoon better than finding a whistle?? ;) when i started this layout, it was all on the triangle paper as a background. and it just wasn't working for me. i ended up cuttig the page in half, right above the title. i then rebuilt the top half on the tone on tone chevron. and then realized it was only 10.25in tall instead of 11. OOPS. so i added the last strip at the top. so the whole page is a bit frankenstein-ed together, but i love the end result. ;)

open me // 34th street + penn station + little bits from herald square and murray hill : i am in LOVE with this stamp from penn station. i think it will be perfect for hidden journaling both for project life and pages, but for this page, it was a great fit for a title. i stamped it in black ink and then painted each letter with a different color of mister huey. i also used the boxes background behind it - stamped in pale aqua. this background has a lot of fun possibilities, too - i'd like to see it w/ different squares filled in with color, or with them cut out and backed with patterned paper! once i had my title and photo in place, i filled in the rest of the page with stickers from the midway label sheet. quick and easy!

hello wonderful day // 34th street + murray hill + herald square + kris kringle : the die cut frames in the murray hill addon are too cool - i love the mix of colors and patterns and words! i stacked two of them to make part of my title, and then added leters from the 12x12 sticker sheet to finish it off. they also made a perfect spot for me to add some stamped tabs and embellishments.

let it snow // 34th street + kris kringle + herald square + murray hill + penn station : kris kringle was my favorite add-on this month - love the wintery and christmasy bits! we just got out first dusting of snow, so i used a lot of those bits on my page. for the title, i wrote out the word snow on my ipad in the paper 53 app, and then brought it into silhouette studio on my laptop and traced it.

happy tuesday!! my sorta stuffy nose has turned into a full blown miserable cold.. BOO. if you need me, i'll be on the couch with lots of kleenex and water.

in love with raskog

like everyone else, i've been stalking the cute aqua cart from ikea. i've watched it pop in and out of stock online. i looked for it at ikea when we were in minneapolis this summer. and i'd been stalking it's in stock status in the chicago stores in the weeks leading up to our thanksgiving trip. always no dice.

then i checked the night before we left town - most likely in stock. WOOHOO. i ended up grabbing two - one aqua and one gray. and now i want a third. i wasn't sure if the corner in my workspace could hold two, but now that i have them here i know that it will. score.

the aqua cart became an art cart. and i'm in love. now instead of all this stuff being crammed in a drawer and a cabinet it is out where they can easily use it AND (this is the best part) easily put it away.

alex built the gray cart for me - it's going to live in the bathroom, holding towels and tp and other useful things. if i get my hands on another aqua one, it will hold fabric and other bits and pieces.

so. it's easy to put together. it's super cute. the size is pefect. and it holds a ton. i love it when something i've been looking for lives up to my expectations!

34th street sneaks

34th Street. it's the perfect mix of frosty aqua, greys and pinks, with some brighter pops of color mixed in. perfect for winter, but not to theme-y that you can't use it for just about anything. with our thanksgiving trip, i was only able to get three layouts done - but i have a bit of time today reserved to sneak in another one. i really really really want to use the kris kringle add-on - i'm in love with the stamp. the leftovers from this addon will definitely be going into my december daily pile.

SNOW! i don't think it will last, but it's the fun fluffy pretty stuff and not too cold. maybe this will be the push i need to get into the christmas mindset?

2012 : captured // project life weeks 15 & 41

it's time for my 2012 : captured class at 2peas. this month was all about the cool PL friendly lines that are popping up everywhere. my week using these lines went together so quickly that i decided to do two weeks for the lesson. =)

i had two fabulous guests working with me again this month - nicole harper and jenni hufford. you can see nik's week here and jenni's here. i love both of their PLs and was thrilled to have work w/ them this month!

week 15 // april 7-13th : easter. squirt guns. light sabers. pleas for a dog. swim lessons and hide and seek.

memory keeping monday : you & me

this week's memory keeping monday is all about those "too big for a LO but i don't have time for a mini" events that you have waiting to be scrapped. thanks to photo collages and divided page protectors, i got all of our photos + memories from a weekend away scrapped in about the same time it would have taken to do a traditional LO. as a bonus, there was confetti involved. ;) project life and my divide and conquer workshop have both taught me how fun it can be to fill up those little pockets one at a time, and i found this insert to be a good way to balance fun scrappy techniques with getting it DONE and into my book.

happy monday! the end of last week found us doing a mad dash to get our deck stained / sealed before the temps dropped and the rain came. we finished it saturday, on an unseasonably warm day in the 70s. sunday morning we made a different mad dash - assessing winter coats and figuring out who needed a new one. the high for the next few days is in the upper 30s. our errands yesterday included getting alex a winter coat that actually goes all the way to his wrists, which i'm sure he appreciated at the bus stop this morning.  i'm sure the cold's not here to stay, but it's nice to be ready for it!

darling dear blog blitz

hey everyone! we're celebrating studio calico's latest release with a blog blitz. we're all excited about darling dear, and i can't wait to see what the rest of the team made with it. =) 

darling dear + sweater vest sam = a match made in heaven. i pulled out the blues and grays from the line, and accented them with a smidge of the orange and red. as fun as the paper designs are, i think my favorite part of this line is the embellishments. i am going through the hearts and arrows sticker sheet at an alarming rate!

i'm also thrilled that studio calico is doing some digital designs to coordinate with this line - there areprintables, die cuts and digital stamp brushes. i used one of the arrows on my page, and cannot wait to put the printables to work on a project life spread!

sometimes gratitude comes when you least expect it. sometimes in big moments, sometimes in small ones. last summer, when i walked back into sam's ER room after they set his arm, i was a mess. but i was so very thankful. so even though these pics still bring back so much emotion that they make my stomach do flip flops, i wanted to scrap that feeling of gratitude.

happy monday! we spent the weekend raking. and raking. and raking. thank goodness for child labor. ;) all of this came from our tiny yard, and we are so glad it's done.  today is gray, wet and cold - totally not outside weather. we're getting to the stay inside time of the year... i think sam and i are off to cuddle under the blanket!
