March has been a hang on for dear life sort of month. It usually is - with spring break and three birthdays, there's just really no hope of it being a laidback month. Add in 5 days out of town and teaching a class, and it's fair to say it's been a whirlwind.
We celebrated the last of the birthdays yesterday. The last Color Studio lesson went up this morning. And that brings us right up to.... reveal day!
Studio Calico's April kit, Bluegrass Farm, goes up today. It's filled with warm and homey colors - fresh green, bright yellow, deep navy, weathered wood - and tons of texture. You can get a peek of the kits on the SC blog. And set your alarms - subscribers can shop for kits at noon EST, and everyone else can at midnight EST. (please note - if you're not a subscriber, the kit links in this post won't work until midnight EST).
If you're just starting your Color Theory Collection, these are my favorite colors for this month - Deja Blue, Clean Slate and Sunny Day. These inks pair well with any of the kits - and so do the embellishments that coordinate with each color.
My projects with the Bluegrass Farm scrapbook kit surprised me. I am usually an embellishment junkie (and this kit doesn't disappoint there) - but I was so taken with the patterns and colors in the patterned papers that I focused on using those and used embellishments fairly minimally. I love the result, and it's always fun to work outside my comfort zone.
Once I started working with Pip, however, that changed. This is SC's first embellishment only add-on, so it would have been rude not to use all those happy little embellishments, right? I added some watercolored paper, and a few patterned paper bits from the other kits.
I also had a bit of a love affair with the new label die. It matches the stamps in Clover, but is lovely on its own as well. Or with sequins. =)
Project Life® and I are still settling into our new 2014 routine, and I am enjoying mixing it up. I've completed a 9x12in page and a handbook insert for February.
Yes, that's a star confetti die. You can grab it in the shop at noon EST. You're welcome. ;)
I also started our Disney / Universal Handbook. In the middle. Because when you have 8 days and 2400+ pics, sometimes you just have to jump in. These photos were on my mind after blogging them last week, and the "you are magic" stamp in the Bluegrass Farm Project Life® kit fit the theme perfectly.
The new Attacher Die is going to get used a LOT, both in my vacation album and my Project Life®. It lets you add just about anything to your book by folding around the edges of it. You'll be able to find this right here at noon EST (if you're a subscriber) and midnight EST (if you aren't).
Here's how it looks in use - I've used it with a glassine bag to hold some extra memorabilia. It's definitely going to be a handy little tool to have on hand.
Before I do my own shopping for this month (time to stock up on grid paper and dot roller refills!), I have an important question. Aqua Instagram album or Gold Instagram album? I'm not sure what I'll use it for, but I can't resist the size.
Studio Calico offers three types of monthly kits - Scrapbook, Card & Project Life® - as well as add-on kits and shop items to complement them. A new kit is revealed on the 27th of each month (at noon EST if you're a subscriber, at midnight EST if you aren't). For more information (or to start your own subscription!), click here.
